How Outpatient Drug Rehab Works
How long do you think you can survive while living in the cycle of addiction? There is only so much physical and mental damage someone can endure before their life starts falling apart. The reality is drug/alcohol addiction is a dead-end street to personal disaster and devastation.
The good news is you have a choice. You can continue down that path of destruction, or you can draw a line in the sand and say enough is enough. What then? What then is admitting you have a problem and getting yourself into rehab.
Once you decide to get help, it’s incumbent on you to find the right place to get treatment. You will also need to decide on how to best get through the treatment process and maintain a lasting recovery.
In most cases, addiction sufferers should expect to go through inpatient rehab. With the proper amount of structure and counseling, the notion of a full recovery from addiction can easily become a reality. What happens if an addiction sufferer isn’t able or willing to commit to inpatient treatment?
Most reputable rehab facilities, ours included, do offer outpatient options. Outpatient treatment options are ideally suited for people who have circumstances that make inpatient treatment unfeasible. In case you are wondering, here a some of the reasons why addiction sufferers prefer outpatient treatment:
- Addiction is only a moderate problem and they feel capable of being responsible for treatment
- Have primary responsibility for the family’s financial stability
- Can not put off work or school
- Have primary responsibility for the care and comfort of family members
- Can not afford the costs associated with inpatient care
- It’s okay if you can’t or aren’t willing to commit to inpatient treatment. However, you do need to consider the outpatient alternative. With that in mind, we offer you the following information about the outpatient treatment process.
How Outpatient Drug Rehab Works
Before you decide on which treatment options you should pursue, you need to speak with a rehab facility’s intake administrator. They will be able to assess your situation and make the right suggestions. If outpatient treatment is where things go, you would most likely need to decide on one of three outpatient treatment options. These three options include (with time requirements): Partial Hospitalization (PHP): 5 to 7 days a week, as many as 10 hours a day Intensive Outpatient (IOP): 3 to 5 days a week, as many as 6 hours a day General Outpatient (OP): 1 to 2 days a week, as many as 2 hours a day To clarify, the general outpatient (OP) is really designed for clients who have already completed a higher level of treatment and just need a little maintenance counseling. The time spent in the treatment focuses on individual counseling. As for the other two outpatient treatment options, they require a lot more time and effort. With the IOP option, all of the emphasis goes towards individual therapy. This would be the time you would devote to learning the truth about your addiction. If and when you find the truth, that would become the basis for creating the coping skills you will need to stay sober. If you were to go the PHP route, you would still need to focus on intensive individual therapy. However, you would also get an opportunity to participate in group therapy, family therapy, and rehab facility functions. Make so mistake about it, there are still very strict rules you would have to follow. Failure to do so would result in you being placed in a higher level of treatment or dismissal from the program. The rules include:- Zero tolerance for any drug or alcohol use
- Willingness to submit to random drug testing
- Showing up for all scheduled appointments on time
- Commitment to the process and making good progress at all times
