Do You Need to Meet Certain Criteria for Treatment in Inpatient Rehab Centers?

When you finally reach the point that you can no longer stand to tread water in the cycle of addiction, you’ll have to make a decision about getting help. Of course, there is only one right decision. You would need to get yourself on the phone to start calling addiction treatment centers, looking for the help you need.

As you are making those calls, a lot of questions are going to start popping into your head. One of those questions might be related to criteria that you must meet in order to qualify for inpatient treatment at a quality rehab facility. First of all, there are surely rehab centers out there in the country that does have certain types of clients to which they cater. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. If you don’t match one rehab facility’s criteria, you would simply move onto the next facility. With all of that said, we want to be clear. Rehab facilities with strict intake guidelines are simply catering to a sector of society. Most of the time, the restrictive criteria will have something to do with money, gender, or social status.

If a rehab facility specializes in treating celebrities, they would certainly want to have restrictions related to who is eligible for treatment. What we want to point out is that the number of these kinds of rehab facilities is very small. A great majority of the top rehab center in the U.S. is willing to take on any clients. The lone exception is they don’t want someone bringing the criminal element into the rehab facility. Otherwise, most rehab facilities have a place for everyone. Knowing that you would likely be accepted at one of the top rehab facilities in your area, it would be up to you to decide where you want to get help. In other words, you get to apply your own criteria to help you find a rehab facility that is right for you.

Things to Consider When Choosing a Rehab

First and foremost, you don’t want to choose a facility that has strict acceptance guidelines. You would be wasting your time if you didn’t meet their standards. A better option would be to choose a rehab that has an open door policy. Next on your list should be affordability. If you have healthcare insurance through your employer or an individual policy, there would be little need to concern yourself with affordability. If you don’t have insurance, affordability becomes a bigger issue.

At that point, you would want to look for rehabs that fall within your budget guidelines. If affordability is not an issue, you would want to focus your efforts on finding a rehab facility that has the kind of rehab program you want and need. For instance, you might be looking for a gender-specific rehab facility. While that might sound like criteria you have to meet, it’s really a minor restriction. It’s you who gets to make the choice. There is a reason why the location was not put at the top of the list. It’s certainly something you want to consider, but you might want to think about being flexible.

Of course, your preference would be to find a rehab facility that is close to your home. If you can find one that’s close, has available space, and has a solid reputation, then staying closer to home makes sense. With that said, there are a lot of addiction treatment specialist who would tell you there are advantages to relocating for treatment. The advantages include:

  • Getting a higher level of privacy
  • Removing oneself from direct contact with bad influences
  • Opportunity to have a change of scenery
  • Opens up a lot more choices in terms of treatment programs and amenities
